Why join our world-class team?

Because at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, we’re committed to providing superior pediatric care with the most advanced innovations in medical technology, where we offer cutting-edge research, education for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals; and a family-friendly environment.

Are you an experienced nurse looking to expand your knowledge base and stretch your critical thinking? Looking for an opportunity to care for those living with congenital heart disease of all ages? Then consider joining the team in the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit!

The Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit is a 44-bed acuity-adaptable unit that provides care for cardiology and cardiovascular surgery patients of all ages from admission through discharge, offering treatments ranging from catheter-based interventions and arrhythmia care to comprehensive surgical services such as transplantations and VAD placements. Patients requiring various cardiac diagnostic studies such as cardiac catheterization, echocardiogram, and electrophysiology can be admitted to the unit regardless of the acuity. We care for patients both before and after open heart surgery and prepare patients to go home. This preparation includes teaching about the patient’s medications, restrictions regarding diet and activity, and signs and even home monitoring. Our unit is staffed by a team of specially-trained experts in cardiovascular surgery, critical care medicine, cardiology and neonatology all in attendance in one central unit. The CCU supports the largest Extracorporeal Membranous Oxygenation (ECMO) program in the Chicago area. Additionally, our nurses care for patients with various ventricular assist devices such as the Berlin Heart, Centrimag/Pedimag, Heartware, Heartmate 3 and Syncardia.
