Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Nurses Ballot

 President

______ Lisa M. Kohr has been an active member of SPCN since 1992. She has been a pediatric cardiovascular nurse since 1987 and an NP since 1992. She first began her career in the CICU at Boston Children’s Hospital. She then went back to school to obtain her MSN in pediatric critical care and worked as an NP on the cardiovascular ward at Boston Children’s Hospital. In 1995, she was recruited to Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago to start up their CV Surgery NP program. She also went back to school and obtained her MPH at the University of Illinois in Chicago. In 2004, she took a position as the Lead NP in the CICU at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she currently works. She is also a PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Ms. Kohr is the current President of SPCN. She has also held the positions of Vice President and Educational Coordinator in the past.  She is very active in AHA, PCICS, AACN, and SCCM. She is currently one of the Lead authors for the SPCN/PCICS infant and child management guidelines and is one of the Editors for the Pediatric CICU Handbook.

­­______Tanya Maria Kempton, RN, MSN, CPN, CNL is currently the SPCN Member-at-Large since 2012. She earned her BSN from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1982. In 2012 she earned her MSN as a Clinical Nurse Leader from Otterbein University in Ohio. She has been a pediatric nurse from the onset of her professional career, starting in the ER, then PICU while in Tennessee. She then moved to Boston and worked in the MICU at The Children’s Hospital. While in Italy and since 1998, Tanya Maria specialized in pediatric cardiology. She served as President of affiliate members (non-physician) for the Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiology from 2004 to 2007 and remains an active member since 2002. She is an abstract reviewer for them and is still invited as speaker or moderator annually.  In 2007, she began working in the Cardiac Catheterization Suites at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Since November 2013, she assumed the position of Clinical Care Coordinator in the PICU at Nationwide Children’s Hospital but remains contingent in the Cardiac Cath labs. She has been an SPCN, AHA, and Council of Cardiovascular Disease in the Young (CVDY) member since 2008. Tanya Maria remains passionate about pediatric cardiology nursing and, in particular, very dedicated to supporting the vision and goals of SPCN so that it may continue to expand nursing knowledge nationally and internationally.

Member-at-Large

______Trudy Pierick is a nurse practitioner in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. She has been in my current role since 2001, and has worked with cardiac patients and families. Trudy works primarily on the inpatient side but also serves as coordinator of our Interstage Clinic that follows single ventricle and other shunt-dependent infants from initial hospital discharge until second stage palliation or surgical correction. Other special interests of  Trudy’s include feeding the cardiac patient, chylothorax management, anticoagulation management, and parent/family support groups. She has been a member of SPCN since 2002 and states “I am excited to increase my involvement by becoming the SPCN Member at Large”.

______Mary Heitschmidt, RN, APN, PhD(c), CCRN is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the Center for Congenital Heart Disease, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Research is the major focus of Mary’s role as CNS.  She has been actively involved in device, drug, and animal studies related to congenital cardiology for over 15 years. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Rush University working on her dissertation which focuses on Quality of Life in Adult Patients with Congenital Heart Disease. Mary is  a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the American Heart Association and Council on Cardiovascular Nursing, the Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Nurses (SPCN), The Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA), International Society for Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ISACHD), the Chicago Adult Congenital Heart (CATCH) Network, St. Daniel the Prophet Parish Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau- Alpha Lambda Chapter. She has been an author of many articles and has presented nationally and internationally at conferences throughout her career.
