SPCN News: An Opportunity to comment on the draft of ANA Cardiovascular Nursing Scope & Standards and SPCN Update

This email Post has 4 important items: an opportunity to contribute to the Cardiovascular Nursing Scope and Standards, an update on the SPCN Annual Meeting and Educational Session, a reminder to pay your dues, and an opportunity to participate in the leadership of SPCN.

ANA Cardiovascular Nursing Scope and Standards: The American Nurses Association has been working on the Scope and Standards for Nursing Speciality Groups for many months.  You have already had the opportunity to review and comment on the Pediatric Nursing Scope and Standards. You now have the opportunity to review and comment on the Cardiovascular Nursing Scope and Standards. Below is the message from the ANA with the links to the ANA website, the draft document, and the comment site. Please take the time to review this document as it directs the practice of all nurses involved in Cardiovascular Nursing.

The Cardiovascular Nursing Scope and Standards Revision Workgroup members seek public comments about the draft Cardiovascular Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, Second Edition. The comment period closes on October 17, 2014. Please consider reviewing and providing recommendations for improvements as part of your professional responsibility and accountability. Do invite students, colleagues, and other stakeholders to also respond. The Cardiovascular Nursing Scope and Standards Revision Workgroup seeks public comments on the draft document Cardiovascular Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, Second Edition. Please focus your review on the content and clarity of this professional document.

SPCN Annual MEETING: I hope that all of you have the SPCN Annual Membership Meeting and Educational Program on your calendar for Saturday, November 15th in Chicago. The American Heart Association Scientific Sessions start on the 16th.  Check out our site at www.spcnonline.com for location, program, and dinner reservations.

SPCN DUES: As a reminder, SPCN dues of $20 are now due.  You may either use PayPal on the website, or send a check to Nancy Hagberg, 34 Rugg Rd., Sterling, MA 01564. Makes checks payable to SPCN. We prefer that you use PayPal.

SPCN Nominations for Office:It is also time to prepare the election ballot for 2014.  The offices that are open for election this year include: President, Secretary, and Member-at-Large. If you are interested in any of these positions or have a nomination for one of these positions (please ensure that you have permission from the person that you nominate), send the name to me, I will contact you or your nominee before the ballot is prepared.  Ballots will be sent out from the SPCN site by the end of September and will be due to me by the end of October. New officers will be introduced at our Annual Meeting.

Please contribute to the practice of cardiovascular nursing by reviewing the Scope & Standards document, pay your dues, and consider a leadership position in SPCN!
