Welcome to the Society of Pediatric Cardiovascular Nurses! We launched another successful year beginning with our annual meeting hosted by the Children’s Heart Center at the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Nurse experts shared lessons learned regarding the care of the adult in a pediatric facility, management of an anticoagulation program and creation of a successful C-PEWs program. The educational session was followed by a poster session highlighting various research and quality improvement projects conducted nursing leaders from the Children’s Heart Center. This was followed by dinner and networking at Wild Salsa in downtown Dallas. A big thank you to Jo Ann Nieves, Andrea Torzone and Jean Storey for coordinating and hosting such a rich educational program .
SPCN was well represented at the 2013 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions again this past year. Several of the sessions submitted by the CVSN Pediatric Subcommittee were accepted this year and many of our members presented at moderated presentations and “How to” sessions. Were excited by the number of members who had posters accepted this year. Lastly, we recognized two members who received distinguished honors this year; Julianne Evangelista who was inducted as a FAHA and Nancy Pike who was inducted as a FAAN. Congratulations!
We look forward to seeing you at the 2014 SPCN meeting held in conjunction with the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions this November in Chicago, Illinos. The annual meeting will be held on November 15th and hosted by the Heart Center at Luire Children’s Hospital and the Cardiology Department at Stollery Children’s Hospital. We have a wonderful educational program planned. Topics include activity guidelines for CHD, acuity adaptable units, and XXX Additional details regarding the meeting can be found on the home page of the website as well in the newsletter. We look forward to seeing you there!
SPCN is committed to making this organization for its member! These include a research page highlighting member research, recent journal or book publications and awards. There will also be a clinical inquiries page detailing surveys sent out to the membership including number of responses, conclusion and contact information. Within the next few weeks, there will be a call out to to share your activities with the membership.
