Working in an outpatient clinical setting, the Specialty Care Nurse provides comprehensive education to the family/patient about the congenital defect, disease or condition, including teaching about different types of medications, explaining testing or other procedures, and answering questions. The selected candidate will work closely with the specialty physician to coordinate adjustments to prescribed medications, manage post-operative wounds, coordinate referrals for home health or DME, process requests for prescription refills, and document clinical information, including patient phone calls and maintaining accurate, complete patient documentation. Specific pediatric cardiology responsibilities include engaging in SBE prophylaxis teaching/management and communicating prophylaxis requirements to dental providers, participating in the management of the pacemaker and ICD population, and using EMR to track patient Coumadin levels.
Requires graduation from an accredited school of nursing, CA RN license, 3 years of professional nursing experience and current CPR certification. Must have knowledge of electronic medical records and good communication, computer, problem solving, customer service, planning, prioritizing and organizational skills. Experience in an ambulatory environment and/or with pediatric cardiology or other pediatric subspecialty is preferred.
