Cardiac Intensive Care APN or PA
The Heart Center at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP, i.e., Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with pediatric experience) to join our existing team of 9 APPs in our Cardiac Care Unit. The ideal candidate will be certified in acute care and/or have pediatric critical care experience.
The candidate’s primary clinical responsibility will be to provide care for cardiac medical and surgical patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary members of the CICU Service’s Critical Care and Stepdown Teams. Cardiac Intensive Care APPs actively participate in patient care rounds. They summarize patient status and develop care plans in order to achieve high quality, cost-effective care. They collect and document comprehensive data, order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, analyze and prioritize complex data, develop differential diagnoses, and implement plans of care. Cardiac Intensive Care APPs participate in professional leadership activities including quality improvement and research projects, education and consultation to nursing staff, and implementation and evaluation of APP standards of care and practice. The position is predominately day shift with a rotating weekend requirement.
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is ranked among the top six children’s hospitals nationally by U.S. News & World Report, and our Heart Center is currently ranked 11th nationally. Our cardiac program is the largest in Illinois and provides expertise in advanced imaging, electrophysiology, heart failure/transplant, adult congenital heart disease, cardiac critical care and preventive cardiology. Our Heart Center includes ~40 attending cardiologists, 16 APPs, 12 CCM fellows, nine cardiology fellows, ~five advanced cardiology fellows, three attending pediatric cardiac surgeons, one congenital heart surgery fellow, and a dedicated cardiac anesthesia service. Approximately 400 cardiac operations per year are performed at our center and outcomes rank among the best in the nation as publicly reported in the STS-CHSS Database, with a 3-star ranking. We have one of the highest volume heart transplant programs in the country and a busy mechanical cardiac support program (VAD, ECMO & E-CPR).
Our 36-bed Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit is a state-of-the-art environment that employs an acuity adaptable care model. The unit will be expanded to 44 beds with anticipated occupancy in November 2017.
